Residents of Peterborough, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and east London have the highest levels of personal debt across the country, new figures have found.
The British Bankers’ Association and the Council of Mortgage Lenders compiled the figures on household debt across over 9,000 postcode sectors.
The two groups analysed lending data to compare the borrowing habits of people and businesses across the country.
People living in PE7 0 which covers Coates, Hampton, Folksworth, Yaxley and Whittlesey have the highest level of personal debt at £1,978 per person.
Residents of NE13 9 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne were found to have the second largest amount of personal debt per person at £1,523.
